Abertay Feminist Society (FemSoc) works to raise awareness of what feminism is really about, provide a safe space for those in need, push for change, support political protest, and to donate money to support local charities. During my time at Abertay I was a member for 3 years, and helped run it for 2; first as Treasurer, before being promoted to Vice President/Secretary.
Once myself and the other executive members took over from the previous committee, we put the society through an entire re-brand. The logo designs and manifesto for this were handled by myself. Furthermore, their most successful yearly event - Ghoul's Night Out, a Halloween charity party - was my baby, and I'm very proud to see it's continued successfully since my leaving.
Alongside the Halloween bash we also ran bi-weekly coffee meets, bake/sticker/art sales, talks, self-defence workshops, movie showings, gaming nights, discussion panels, and attended multiple protests & marches (most notably Dundee's "Reclaim the Night", which FemSoc supports yearly).
The final Halloween night ran by myself (2017) was one of the biggest events at the University that year, and the profit made at it largely contributed to the ~£800 total raised for our charity, Dundee & Angus' Women's Rape & Sexual Assault Centre (WRASAC). For the amount donated that year we won the Big Heart Award at the Abertay annual society awards.
You can find out more about FemSoc here, and can find WRASAC here.
Please consider supporting them if you can, as they do fantastic work.
